I was going through some old photos of our summer in Minneapolis and found some interesting photos I forgot I had taken…

This next photo is particularly funny to me. This a pole on the corner next to the Target HQ. I walked passed it every day. But the reason I found it funny is because I used to collect Jim Abbott baseball cards when I was younger. I’m not even quite sure why I chose Jim Abbott to collect. It was probably because he didn’t have a right hand and I thought it was cool that he was a pitcher. It was as if the sticker was there just to say, ‘hey, remember when you used to collect Jim Abbotts?’

I’ve passed this building many times and always appreciated the signeage out front, it being a sign company and all. Not just their sign, but the building itself. Although I’ve never been inside, there is something about busineses that maintain the originality of their building. Especially architecture and design elements from the mid-century. Yesco is a pretty impressive company with quite the portfolio and an interesting history. The look of this building gives a glimpse of how they have been one of the leaders in sign making/design since their beginning.

More fireworks

I came across some more fireworks from an old stash I remembered I had. Nothing too spectacular, but you can definately count on the emission of flame and sparks with these!

Fireworks!

October 5, 2008

I love fireworks, always have and probably always will. I have always been so fascinated with fireworks graphics/packaging. Of course I’m talking about the consumer fireworks you and I buy at the stands and such. They come is such colorful packaging, they’re all made in China and ’emit showers of sparks.’ In fact that is one of my favorite phrases on fireworks ‘caution’ labels. Here are some more…

*LIGHT FUSE AND GET AWAY!

*SHOOTS FLAMING BALLS

*EMITS SHOWERS OF SPARKS

*REPORTS

I especially love older labels on fireworks - where everything is hand drawn. It makes you feel like your fireworks were all carefully handmade just for you, even down to the label. I don't know, but the guy on this particular box looks a little creepy.
